IPL Hair
Removal
Excess and unwanted hair is a common problem. Women frequently
experience this condition on the face, especially the upper lip and
chin areas, at the bikini line, underarms or on the legs. Men
as well often have unwanted hair on their back, chest, neckline
and between their brows.
In many cases excessive hair growth runs in families. Race and
hormones can also play a role. Some people experience unwanted
or excess hair from the time they reach puberty; others find it to
be a condition that becomes worse with age, pregnancy and menopause.
Conventional treatments include shaving, waxing, depilatory creams
and tweezing. While these methods provide temporary fixes they
can often be irritating to the skin.
IPLTM
light sources are rapidly changing hair removal treatment, providing
gentle, non-invasive, long-lasting solutions to unwanted hair on any
body area.
Hair grows in
distinct phases: anagen, catagen, early telogen and late telogen.
The pulsed-light treatments are most effective when hair is in the
anagen or active phase when the pigment (melanin) is abundant.
How it works
IPLTM
(Intense Pulse Light) is a break through technology that
damages the hair follicle for permanent hair reduction without
causing damage to the skin.
What it
feels like
Most people
tolerate the treatments very well. There is minimal discomfort
during the procedure much like a rubber band snap.
Number of
treatments needed
To effectively
achieve the desired results a minimum of four treatments per area
are necessary. Since hair grows in stages, it is impossible to
know what stage each hair is at therefore in order to achieve the
desired results, multiple treatments are recommended.
Time
Upper lip and
chin can take as little as ten minutes. Underarms and bikini
can take fifteen minutes. Legs and backs are based on the size
of the area and the amount of hair to treat.
Cost
The cost of each
area depends on the hair density and your skin type as well as the
size of the area to be treated. We offer FREE consultation to
evaluate your needs.
Pre-treatment Instructions
Discontinue sun
exposure, the use of tanning beds and self-tanning cream or sprays.
All exfoliation products should be discontinued two weeks prior to
treatment on the areas to be treated. Exfoliation products
include Retin-A, retinol, over-the-counter scrubs, loofa sponges and
glycolic/salicylic peels.
Discontinue the
use of Accutane six months prior to treatment.
Tweezing, waxing,
sugaring, electrolysis and other epilation methods should be
discontinued four weeks prior to treatment.
If you have a
history of fever blisters a prescription may help alleviate an
outbreak from the light.
Post-treatment Instructions
A mild
sunburn-like sensation is expected. Cool compresses or Aloe
Vera gel can be applied to treatment areas. Bathe or shower as
normal. Treated areas may be temperature sensitive especially
to hot tubs, Jacuzzis and excessive exercise.
Should sun
exposure be unavoidable, use an SPF 30 otherwise avoid sun exposure
to treated areas, as well as the use of sun tanning beds, and
self-tanning creams.
Hair growth or
stubble will continue for 7 to 30 days after treatment. This
is not new hair, but the hairs that already exist in the follicles
that are being purged.

Huddles and
Hoops -
Many
sports enthusiasts suffer from acne breakouts whether it is football
or basketball. Helmets trap in sweat, oil and dirt; and as we know
are not properly cleaned after use. Sweaty t-shirts during
basketball and football create the same bacteria arena on the body.
A deep cleaning with steam, exfoliation, extractions, massage, a
specialized mask specific to your needs and skin type will improve
breakouts and get you back to pre-season skin! Sport
breakouts are no longer gender specific.
Esthetic treatments along with proper home care and education can
help control these issues. Treatments are performed on the face,
neck, upper arms and back.

least 1/4" long. To ensure ideal treatment, products such as AHA,

Does
Age Really Matter?
As long as you take care of
yourself- age really doesn't matter. Women are becoming more
interested in the radiant rewards of a proper skincare routine and
healthy lifestyle choices. According to a recent study by the
American Society of Plastic Surgeons, total surgical cosmetic
procedures have actually decreased by five percent since 2000.
Most women in the U.S. looking to address aging or problematic skin
choose not to inject toxins into their faces, instead opting for
holistic lifestyle therapies and noninvasive topical treatments.
What causes us to look older and
can it be avoided? Eighty percent of the appearance of aging
is due to sun damage. Using sunscreens with physical blocks
containing zinc oxide, titanium oxide or avobenzone is necessary.
All of these ingredients are UVA and UVB blockers that provide
full-spectrum protection. As well as sun blocks, smoking,
hydrating, exfoliating and exercise top the list of anti-aging
advice.
Putting a daily regimen into
action can be a challenging task in today's busy world especially
with more and more products on the market promising to fight the
aging process. The evening cleanser is the most important, as
it removes pore clogging debris and allows skin to rejuvenate
overnight. Product choices remain endless so you might wonder
if there is really a difference between over-the-counter lines and
the more expensive ones available through a professional office.
O.T.C. lines use less expensive active ingredients in small amounts,
appealing to a broader segment of people and avoid creating any bad
reactions. While most professional lines use more potent
active ingredients that address particular problems and consequently
cost more.

In your 20's |
What a fun and
exciting time. Being on your own...sunbathing
without sunscreen, staying out late, and eating
dessert before the main course. In your 20s,
oil glands around the eyes dry up, allowing fine
smile lines to begin developing. As a woman
gets older, the chemistry of her skin changes; skin
cell renewal drops so prevention must be your focus.
NEVER go to sleep with your makeup on, doing so can
block pores, leaving oil trapped inside. This
leads to bacterial buildup and breakouts.
Your daily
regimen:
A.m. -
Cleanse the skin with a good quality cleanser,
moisturize, protect with sunscreen and mineral
powder.
P.m. -
Cleanse the skin twice - once to remove your makeup
and once to cleanse the actual skin. Lightly
exfoliate (once weekly), eye cream and moisturize
with antioxidants and vitamins. Drink 8-10 oz.
of water daily, as water is essential for healthy
skin.

|
In your 30's |
Texture of the skin
begins to change and exfoliation is essential as it
helps reduce fine lines and skin discoloration.
If you're beginning a family, you'll know that the
hormones associated with pregnancy will take you and
your skin back to puberty. Collagen fiber loss
allows skin to begin to appear saggy and loose.
Hormonal imbalances can cause pigment changes.
Important issues for this decade are skin
smoothness, moisture, tone and color.
Professional light peels can help firm the skin, and
reduce the appearance of fine lines.
Your daily
regimen:
A.m. -
Cleanse with a anti-aging cleanser, eye cream,
moisturize with antioxidants like Vitamin C and
collagen boosters, protect with sunscreen and
mineral powder.
P.m. -
Cleanse the skin twice - once to remove your
makeup and once to cleanse the actual skin.
Mild daily exfoliation. Cool compress to the
eyes for rest and comfort, eye cream, and
moisturize. Drink water, water and more water.

In your 40's |
The results of your
baby-oil tanning twenties will become unwelcome
wrinkles and loss of collagen and elastin.
Cell renewal slows down even more and the surface
layer begins to noticeably build up.
Strengthen skins natural defenses by using products
that promote firmness, elasticity and collagen.
Ingredients look for retinal, retinyl palmitate, soy
and marine algaes. Begin self-massage not only
feels good but also works to naturally firm the skin
and tone the underlying muscles and tissues.
Your daily
regimen:
A.m. -
Cleanse with a glycolic/salicylic cleanser, eye
cream moisturize and protect with sunscreen and
mineral powder.
P.m. -
Cleanse twice - once to remove your makeup and once
to cleanse the actual skin. Exfoliate (twice
weekly). Use of a concentrated specialized
serum for problem areas specific to you and a
rejuvenating night cream. Visit your
esthetician for maintenance facials once quarterly.
Drink 1/2 of your body weight in ounces of water
daily.

In your 50's |
Sun damage continues,
while menopause takes hold of your emotions.
Facial hair appears where there's never been hair.
Skin becomes dry from the loss of certain hormones
and more fragile and sensitive over time.
Products containing Vitamin C & E create a powerful
anti-aging potion that sends help where it is
needed. Fifty skin becomes prone to redness
and irritation so products that include green tea
extract which soothes the skin can be helpful.
Skin brightening extracts, such as licorice, apple,
white tea, cucumber work to restore a more youthful
glow.
Your daily regimen:
A.m. -
Cleanse with a cleanser that promotes wellness.
A rejuvenating eye cream, moisturize, protect with
sunscreen and mineral powder.
P.m. -
Cleanse twice - as you've done throughout your
previous years, use a gentle exfoliant, rejuvenating
eye cream, a rich hydrating night cream with a
specialized serum. A self-administered
light-kneading facial massage once weekly and seeing
your esthetician once a month helps to maintain a
healthy glow. Continue consuming water.
